The Twits: Book Review

Title: The Twits

Author: Roald Dahl

ISBN: 014241039X

Classification: Fiction
Themes: humor

What’s it about?

Mr and Mrs Twit are not only ugly but they are very, very mean. They enjoy playing nasty tricks on each other. Not only that but the Muggle-Wumps (monkey ‘pets’ who live in cages) have had enough and devise a plan to teach the Twits a lesson!

This story is full of humor. It has illustrations throughout the book and is a quick read to use as a class story.

A couple of mildly ‘bad’ words (stupid) but nothing too over the top.

My Thoughts…

Use It
This was the first novel I introduced to a grade 1/2 class and they thoroughly loved it. It is engaging, quick paced and funny. The students really get involved in discussing what will happen next and also about why the Twits’ behaviour is just so bad!

It took about a week to read this one – about 10 mins a day, usually during eating time before they went out for lunch.
